Documentary looking for struggling
teens for wilderness experience
Shapiro/Grodner Productions, www.arnoldshapiroprods.com,
is working on a documentary-style series focusing on
the positive work being done at SageWalk
- the Wilderness School. SageWalk is a therapeutic
program that serves as an intense intervention
program for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17.
It provides an opportunity to learn about the natural
environment, wilderness oriented survival
techniques, interpersonal relationships, communication
skills and accepting responsibility for actions and
consequences. (For more information, log
on to www.sagewalk.com)
We are going to follow nine young people between ages 14 and 17 through
the program, and document the process from start to finish.
Our production will pay the full cost of tuition for each of those nine
students once they and their parents agree to participate, and once they
are approved for attendance by Sage Walk and by us.
We are looking for families who would be interested in sending their
troubled teen to Sage Walk and would agree to be filmed
during the process.; the student throughout the program
and the parents at least once each
week during the entire process. We are looking for
troubled teens from different ethnic backgrounds, from
upper, middle and lower class families
between the ages of 14 and 17, who are dealing with
one or more of the following issues: experimenting
with alcohol and/or drug, anger management,
sexual promiscuity, depression/apathy etc.
The goal of this documentary-style series is to show how positive change
can occur and family rifts or breakdowns can be remedied through this
worthwhile program and the follow-up that occurs afterward. We want to
inspire families across America who are struggling with difficult teenagers
that there is hope, there are positive approaches to change, and that
to do nothing and to avoid seeking help can be destructive and dangerous.
The students will arrive at Sage Walk to begin a special 40-day (or
longer) program on or about Sunday, November 14 of this year. (For those
families we focus upon, there will also be one or two additional days
of filming at their home between November 1 and 7 so we can better understand
the family situation before the Sage Walk experience begins).
Again, participating families will have the entire tuition cost -- valued
at around $22,000 -- paid by our production.
