Tragic Accident At Tranquility Bay
Press Release
By Ken Kay, World Wide Association
August 13, 2001
The management of a privately run boarding school, Tranquility Bay,
located in Jamaica, regrets to announce that one of its female students had a tragic accident on Friday, August 10, 2001 at around 6:00
in the evening. The student was in class when she unexpectedly and without warning, ran out of the classroom and jumped off the second
story balcony of the classroom. She landed in such an unusual manner as to cause fatal injury. The girl was a brand new student and
it remains very unclear as to what her motives were.
The injured 17 year old was immediately rushed to Black River Hospital,
where she was pronounced dead. The student's parents in the U.S.A. have been notified and are making arrangements as soon as possible
to claim their daughter's remains once a police investigation is complete and the body released.
This is the first incident of this kind to occur at Tranquility Bay
since its operation began in Jamaica over four years ago. Some 275 students, male and female, are housed at the co-ed institution on
the beach. Most of the students are from the U.S.A.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the young girl's family. Our prayers
also go out to the other students and staff at Tranquility Bay, who have been deeply affected by this tragedy. We have received numerous
calls from parents of other students at Tranquility Bay wishing condolences to the family.
