Discovery Students Score Higher Than Peers
Provo, UT – Students at Discovery Academy scored higher on the
American College Test than their peers on both the state and national
level.
Discovery Academy students earned a composite score of 22.6 compared
to a national average of 20.9 as noted on the 2004 –2005 ACT results
report sent to Discovery Academy.
The ACT is taken by students seeking college admission. Joel
Gardner, Headmaster, says the results show Discovery Academy students
are being well prepared for college. They scored an average of
two points higher in Math, English, Science and Reading than other
high school students across the nation.
Discovery Academy is an accredited clinical boarding school and
recognized leader in the development of academic and treatment
programs for youth. Located in Provo, Utah, the school combines
academics, traditional and experiential therapies, and life skill
training.
Discovery’s academic program is built on a competency based teaching
system that instructs students according to their ability. Students
are involved in a holistic approach that includes individual study
where they master specific concepts at there own pace, classroom
instruction that includes note taking, and experiential learning
activities that include group involvement and discussion, all
under the guidance of certified instructors.
Counselors work closely with students to help them determine
academic strengths and interests and to prepare for post-high
school opportunities.
“We’re very proud of our students and the academic success they’re
experiencing at Discovery,” Gardner adds.
