The Life Skills Counselor acts as a member of a team of professional staff delivering and modeling the core values and philosophy of the school.
In addition the Life Skills Counselor:

Provides exceptional leadership.

Maintains positive, professional relationships with students using: sound judgment, integrity, patience, persistence, compassion, awareness, creativity, sense of humor, and maturity.

Sees to a variety of day-to-day expected or unexpected needs that arise.

Assist students in learning about themselves, each other, their limits, and their personal goals.

Participates or facilitates in peer group functions such as Insights, groups, classes, dorm checks, mail distribution, off-campus trips, and physical education activities.

Supports students' academic work and development by monitoring academic plans, homework, and special needs.

Works and communicates with team leader and is abreast of all team or school activities and concerns
The position requires the ability to understand and work with today's youth and families, highly developed interpersonal and social communication skills, ability to give constructive feedback, present clear information, and use inclusive language and behavior. In addition, the Life Skills Counselor should be adept in computer and word processing skills, writing reports and plans, and should possess a BA/BS Degree in related field and/or hold three years of related experience.

About Monarch School
Monarch School is a coeducational, year-round, residential school dedicated to the needs of adolescents who are having difficulties at school and at home. We provide a structured academic program, and guidance in acquiring life skills with an emphasis on creative arts. The 18 month program brings the students through a series of steps that instills the knowledge and courage to rebuild their own life and also strengthens their connection with their parents. Approximant enrollment is 65 students ages 14-18. The school is located in Heron, Montana (just over the Idaho border).
