Description:
Ascent is one of the nation's premier therapeutic adventure programs for teens ages 13 through 17 who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties. Our innovative six-week program is a proven therapeutic outdoor behavior health care intervention, or "therapeutic wilderness program" with an exceptional safety record and a time-tested history of success helping youth break the cycle of destructive behavior. We are pleased to announce immediate opportunities for experienced Wilderness Counselors at all levels. Participate in assisting with the planning and preparation phase of course. Counselor I and Counselor II assist the Chief Instructor during course and participate in the Student Information Debrief given by the Clinical Therapists. In this position you will instruct and train students in the technical skills needed for Expedition/Course and will work with Chief Instructor in the setting of goals and delivery of therapeutic needs for student participants. Our Wilderness Counselors will also supervise the students on Expedition, providing crisis intervention as needed and assisting in the facilitation of group counseling activities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field preferred for all positions. Minimum age 21 yearsCounselor I - Minimum six months experience with at-risk adolescentsCounselor II - Minimum of 130 days of field experience within the outdoor adventure industry in progressively responsible positions; minimum 45 field days as lead guide preferred. Minimum one year working with adolescent populations. WFR certificateChief Instructor - Minimum 300 field days within the outdoor therapeutic adventure industry in progressive areas of responsibility (instructor to lead guide). Minimum two years experience working with similar adolescent at-risk populations. WFR certificateGroup facilitation skills, crisis and behavior management training, summer and winter technical skills, First Aid/CPR
Work Schedule: One of the best in the industry! 2- forty hour weeks in camp setting preparing team for the field, two weeks in the field (Idaho Cabinet Mountains or Montana National Forest) and two weeks paid time off equal our six week wilderness instructor rotations. Additional paid time off is accrued under the benefits package.
Salary/Benefits: D.O.E. and qualified level. Seasonal Wilderness Counselors (All Levels) |
Season: Approx. May - August 2008
Schedule: Rotational
Reports to: Supervisor, Course
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for assisting in the planning and preparation phase of the course. Assists in the pre-course inspection and review of all equipment, including vehicles, to be used while in the field. Participates in the Student Information Debrief given by the Clinical Services Department, the pre-course briefing and post-course debrief. Instructs and trains students in the technical skills needed for Expeditions. Participates in the students and staff informational pre- and post-expedition briefings. Counselor I and II works with Chief Instructor in setting goals and establishing the therapeutic needs of student participants. Chief Instructors responsible for group as a whole. Supervises students on Expedition, provides crisis intervention as needed, assists and facilitates group counseling activities. Responsible for maintaining necessary certificates and training as applicable to Ascent policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS: Seeking Counselor I, Counselor II and Chief Instructors for 2008 season. One - five year's professional experience working with youth in the out-of-doors. Knowledge and skill in the supervision of emotionally and behaviorally disordered adolescents. Ability to communicate effectively and to present a positive role model. Demonstrated wilderness skills in all areas. Must have physical conditioning and stamina to meet job requirements. Bachelor degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills. Wilderness First Responder, CPR and Crisis Prevention training preferred.

Salary: $1750/mo- $2500/mo. + premium overtime DOE and qualified level

Business Development Director |
Develop and implement strategic business development plan that supports the Ascent annual business plan. Support and emulate high customer service standards internally and externally. Participate in orientation to the Ascent wilderness program and stay abreast of service changes that may be important to customer/referral base. Participate in marketing/referral development meetings. Implement Customer Oriented Selling process in daily account management activity. Adhere to the account management plan and complete duties assigned therein. Establish consistent contact with potential referral sources. Maintain documentation associated with account management activities. Support the program's public relations campaign. Assist the Executive Director and other team members in carrying out other marketing activities. Excellent communication skills and ability to operate at a high level independently and effectively. Consistent ability to achieve assigned objectives on monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
BA in Marketing or related field with mental health/treatment background preferred. Strong business development skills required with demonstrated success in identifying and building referral sources. Moderate travel required (approx 10-12 days per month). Positions reports to the Executive Director. Salary will be determined by education and experience. Job Description: Manages all aspects of the ASCENT Wilderness program. Responsible for identifying "climate" (trends, patterns and key indicators of student/staff behaviors) regarding quality of participation and performance in the ASCENT program. Develops solutions to increase quality to enhance retention of students and staff. Responsible for overall fiscal management of ASCENT, which includes census,
student and staff retention, operating expenses, revenue, marketing and capital projects. Supervision of reporting staff members. Final responsibility for development and career path strategies for all staff, to include all components of program and mandatory training. Develops and implements annual strategic plan to coordinate program services to ensure signature quality of ASCENT. Works as a
team member with other School/Program Directors to provide compliance with Master Program throughout Idaho Educational Services.
Job Qualifications: BA/BS required; MSW or equivalent preferred. Five or more years related experience working within program administration for adolescents at-risk, preferably wilderness, and four or more years experience in a supervisory role. 2+ years exposure to Marketing and/or Admissions. Knowledge of Clinical/Therapeutic Interaction a must.
