JOB TITLE: Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Clinical

PRIMARY FUNCTION: A Counselor primarily works as a member of the clinical team to ensure the safety and personal growth of students enrolled in the program, including performing clinical assessment, treatment planning, therapy, and transition planning for assigned students and their families.

DUTIES: Include, but are not limited to:
  • Complying with professional and ethical standards, company policies and state, federal, and accrediting requirements.
  • Safely operating the assigned company equipment, vehicles, and property.
  • Maintaining the safety and well-being of enrolled students.
  • Maintaining accountability and supervision of the assigned group of students.
  • Performing safety and emergency procedures and protocol as needed.
  • Creating, adjusting, and implementing personal growth treatment plans and activities for the assigned students according to the company model and mission statement.
  • Conducting and recording regular written student assessments and recommendations for each assigned student.
  • Providing a weekly individual therapy session for each of the assigned students.
  • Conducting assigned family programs and group therapeutic interventions.
  • Implementing an aftercare plan for assigned students.
  • Coordinating and communicating the aftercare plan with parents, treatment team, educational consultants and outside agencies as needed.
  • Fulfilling the "on-call" duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.
  • Implementing the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly calendar of therapeutic functions and activities, as assigned by the Clinical Director.
  • Leading assigned Mentors in implementing the personal growth treatment plans and activities through the use of the company therapeutic treatment model.
  • Assisting the Clinical Director in training Mentors in the implementation of the educational and personal growth plans as needed.
  • Recording the required written clinical phone logs, reports, and correspondence in the student case record and disseminating the appropriate written information to parent(s), referring professionals, the student, and mental health professionals, if any.
  • Communicating the appropriate student information with parent(s), treatment team, and referring professionals. Upon request of the parent(s), maintaining proper communication with any mental health professional seen previously.
  • Rotating work duties during holidays, as requested by the Clinical Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master's Degree with an emphasis in the Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related Behavioral Health field is required. Eligibility or possession of an LSW, LCSW, LPC, MFT, Clinical Psychologist license, or similar, is preferred.
  • Three or more years prior experience working with youth and families is preferred.
  • The ability to creatively design personal growth plans for a youth group and lead a team of Mentors in implementing those plans according to the company therapeutic treatment model is preferred.
  • Possessing a current West Virginia driver's license and passing a driver's background check is required if driving a company vehicle.
  • Passing applicable state and/or federal criminal background checks is required.
  • Passing an annual Tuberculosis Test is required.
  • Proof of legal permission to work in the Unites States is required.

DEPARTMENT: Academic

Teachers must demonstrate the leadership qualities, professional skills and commitment to work as a team with fellow teachers, counselors, and mentors in empowering student success. The ability to work creatively to utilize each student's learning style and motivations in a therapeutic boarding school setting is a must. Experience in experiential education, therapeutic education and/or special education experience is highly desirable.   • Must hold a Bachelor's Degree.
