Treatment at Cottonwood's Adolescent Girls Program is based on a 45-day, intensive program that includes a solid base of medical management, 12 step concepts, family involvement, group therapy, nutritional counseling and individualized small specialty groups. The Cottonwood Program is staff intensive and managed by professional, master level therapists who are supervised by internationally respected Psychiatrist, Dr. Fran Moore, to insure that each patient and their family receive the care and attention they need and deserve. The adolescent program is a dual diagnosis program working with chemical dependency as well as a strong emphasis on mental health issues. Each patient has a complete physical and psychiatric assessment. Each girl's individualized treatment plan is developed from the assessment and treatment focus is considered from a holistic approach: mind, body and spirit. When this approach is taken, a balance is created and the opportunity for a successful and happy life is greatly enhanced.

There are definite advantages to a "Girls Only" program. Cottonwood's experience indicates that this provides young women the opportunity to go deeper in their personal work. The girls are able to take a more thorough look at their issues without having to resort to the posturing that role playing between the sexed creates. In a girls only program it's OK to have a bad hair day. It also allows the girls to develop personal relationships with other girls their own age, which many of them have not done. They discover that other girls can act as a support system and that there are other girls just like them. They are not alone.
