The property was once a popular dude ranch, catering to many of the stars of that era. The desert setting is safe and serene, near the foothills of the Tucson mountains. Rabbits, roadrunners, families of quail and an occasional coyote are seen throughout the campus. The grounds are lush with plants, especially many interesting varieties of cacti. All of this offers an ideal setting to begin the process of entry into a new and happier lifestyle.

Cottonwood de Tucson opened the female adolescent program in January 2001. Our focus is on the specific needs of young women in today's society. The philosophy of our dually diagnosed program is to support development of self-esteem, healthy body image, identity and ability to make positive choices. If coexisting substance abuse issues are present, they are treated based on the concept of the 12-step model. The fourth week of treatment is set aside for families. We place great value on the family's involvement in our internationally recognized family program. Improved communications and a recommitment to family values are the focus of this five-day program. During the final phase of treatment, an individualized aftercare plan is developed with the input of a team of professionals, including referents and parents. This structured aftercare plan encourages continuity of care and ongoing focus on skill building.
