Clayton brings with him to this position 18 years of experience working within the field of chemical dependency and substance abuse. Clayton has a thorough understanding of the Wilderness Quest program as he began working with the company in July of 2006. He has served Wilderness Quest in a variety of roles to include "Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor" and "Field Director". His experience in these roles adds great value to his role as the Director of Family Services as he has first hand working knowledge of the program as it is played out in the wilderness. Additionally, his knowledge of recovery and clinical skills help bring together family members at the pinnacle of the student's process, teaching them to communicate more effectively and opening the channels for the development of meaningful relationships. As the Director of Family Services, Clayton will oversee the Family Enrichment Program, which occurs during the final thee days of the student's participation in the program. Family members work with the student's Primary Therapist throughout the duration of the program, completing assignments that will help the family prepare for the Family Enrichment process. Clayton will then utilize his expertise in effectively facilitating the family process to produce positive and rewarding opportunities for all participating members. Another critical aspect of Clayton's role is the continued training and implementation of 12 Step Programming. Wilderness Quest is a 12 step, clinically driven, dual diagnosis program. In recovery himself, Clayton understands the value of creating a strong 12 step culture in treatment so that students are able to take what they learn in the wilderness and have application in the "real world" environment. 12 step programming allows students to develop a "common language" and have an instant support network where ever they go after treatment. Through continued recruitment of staff that are in recovery, and continued training on the 12 step process, Clayton will work to maintain a strong 12 step environment. So please join the Wilderness Quest team in welcoming Clayton Payne to this role. If you have any questions about Clayton or any of the Leadership team at Wilderness Quest, please feel free to contact our Administrative office (435-587-2801) or Paula Riggs, our Director of Admissions, at 888-WAY-BACK (888-929-2225).
