Stricker Announces Retirement

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It was in May of 2011 that Whetstone Academy accepted our first student. What an exciting moment that was! And now as we approach the end of our fifth summer, we will have graduated 50 young men! The excitement goes on!

As we begin phase two at Whetstone, it seems to be coinciding with another important development --- my retirement. My planning for this big day began in earnest as 2016 arrived. The first task was to find a talented Head of School to keep the wheels turning day-to-day. You may remember my announcement from three months ago when Glenn Singer arrived to jump into that spot with vigor!

I then shifted to new owner and CEO with my eyes open for the right person that could carry Whetstone Academy to the next level. I wanted someone that could take over primary ownership of our school, with the energy, passion and skill set to take a "start-up" to "cutting edge."

I am happy to announce that I have found that person in Dr. John Singleton. John has been working as Director of Business Development for Trails Carolina, and prior to that as President and Head of School at Brandon Hall in Atlanta.

There are so many people for me to thank for their involvement in the formation of Whetstone Academy. First and foremost, I thank Mrs. Jean Stein for her amazing generosity along with her husband, Mr. Michael Fischer, and their Family Foundation. We exist because they believed.

I also had tremendous support and encouragement from other alumni families with whom I had worked previously. I thank the founding staff that helped us to launch, as well as the excellent staff that surrounded us as we moved forward. I offer a huge shout-out to the Educational Consultants around the United States that have trusted, and continue to trust, that we can help their clients. But of course the real heroes here are the young men and their families whose success at Whetstone Academy informs our work going forward.

Whetstone Academy is a year round therapeutic boarding school for young boys ages 10 - 14. WA is full therapeutic program in a Montessori environment encouraging young men to discover their innate worth and nurture those gifts to fruition.
