Can Parents Win the Technology Arms Race

Lon Woodbury

They can if they realize what makes some children obsessed to a harmful degree with technology, and realize what it is about their own child that makes them vulnerable to this temptation explained Aaron McGinley, Program Chairman of Black Mountain Academy in North Carolina and very familiar with the latest technology to Lon November 16, 2016. Dopamine is a key to the reward center in the brain, explained McGinley, that is, key to motivation. However, he continued, when children are vulnerable by difficulties of having positive social relationships such as often happens with children on the Autistic spectrum, with ADHD or self-harming, the emotional rewards they received from dopamine in success with computer games or many computer sites can easily lead to obsessions and self-destruction. Listen to Aaron explain what parents need to master to prevent technology taking over their children's lives or to help them when technology seems to be winning the arms race.
