April 16, 2010

With May quickly approaching, our guest speakers and their presentations for the 5th Annual Northwest Get Together, scheduled for May 21, 2010, are committed.

This year's speakers will include plenty of hands-on experiential activities and are:

Scott Victorson, a physical education teacher at Northwest Academy in Naples, ID will speak on "Re-discovering new and old healthy habits for teenagers", looking at requirements and standards of personal fitness in schools and boarding schools and how to incorporate a true physical education curriculum into a residential setting.

Dr. Barbara Cunningham, Guidance Counselor at Summit Preparatory School in Kalispell, MT, who's presentation on intellectually gifted teens, is titled:
"Rethinking the Gifted Underachiever"

Dr. Barbara Cunningham holds a Master's degree in Guidance and Counselor from Northwest Missouri State University and her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Technology from the University of Montana. Barbara's interest in gifted education was triggered both personally as a parent of a gifted child and as guidance counselor working with gifted youth for the past 30 years.

Dennis Thompson, a licensed substance abuse counselor and co-founder of a new substance abuse program for young adults: Spokane Mountain, and his partner and friend, L Jay Mitchell, founder of SUWS Wilderness program, Alldredge Academy and Greenbrier Academy and co-founder of Spokane Mountain will engage participants of this year's get together experientially with music as metaphors as a conduit to pass through new spiritual thresholds.

Throughout the day, there will be ample time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
Mark your calendars for this exciting day! And we hope to see you there!
