The Board of Trustees for The Three Springs Foundation has announced that the following scholarships have been awarded: Six returning applicants were awarded totaling $4,454 in spring 2009. Fall 2009 Scholarships included three newly enrolled freshmen who were awarded scholarships totaling $1500, with $500 awarded to each individual. Three returning applicants were also awarded scholarships totaling $2,500.

The Three Springs Foundation was founded in 1993 as a non-profit organization whose mission is the disbursement of post-secondary education scholarship funds for worthy Three Springs' alumni. Funding comes through donations from Three Springs' employees and from families of Three Springs' alumni. In 2009, a living educational memorial to benefit The Foundation was established in memory of Rob Rainey, a former Three Springs employee. Following his sudden death earlier this year, his family elected to honor him with donations to The Foundation in lieu of flowers. The education memorial contributed $2,627 to The Foundation.

The scholarship program is open to current or former Three Springs' students whose grades and college entrance examination scores demonstrate both a leadership role and academic proficiency. The student must take the ACT or SAT and complete an application packet, which is then reviewed and voted on by the Three Springs Foundation Board of Trustees. Trustees of the Three Springs Foundation believe strongly that awarding scholarships encourages students to pursue notable academic achievement. Progress in intellectual pursuits is frequently the natural companion to behavioral changes made by residents in programs at Three Springs. Not only do the scholarships provide students with needed financial assistance, but these awards also provide recognition for tasks well done. Such accolades have proven to be very important motivators for all students. According to Pete Wallingford, Superintendent of Three Springs Schools in Alabama, and a member of the Board of Trustees for The Foundation, "We gain great satisfaction in having the privilege to reward students who pursue post- secondary education and enjoy the opportunity to follow their success."
