Initially we had that one student sign up for the team, but by the time the season started, six young ladies stepped forward. Most had never held a golf club, but they were willing to try. The group connected with two retired golfers from Kalispell who have hearts of gold and a strong belief in junior golf. They worked patiently with the girls and helped them see the real side of golf: have fun, be patient, believe in yourself, smile often, focus, listen, and "oh yeah, hit a good ball" now and then. What a great sport to introduce to these young ladies! They competed with the Montana Class C Schools. Each saw their skills improve and they all learned a lot about themselves as they learned about the game. Spring in Montana brings in all types of weather. There was rain, snow, sun and wind, and they played through it all. One of the students even qualified and competed in the State tournament! The season's duration was short, but the lessons these girls learned will last a lifetime. © Copyright 2012 by Woodbury Reports, Inc. |
