Starr Academy is licensed in Wisconsin as a private school and academically with the Department of Public Instruction. It is a residential therapeutic education facility for boys ages 13-18. Starr offers comprehensive residential therapy and “quality” education for struggling teens. In response to numerous calls from parents of at-risk youth, Starr, a division of Rawhide, Inc., recently began providing this new service based on its almost 40 years of experience in helping young men with emotional and therapeutic needs to “become successful in school and responsible in their home and community.”

Upon arrival at Starr Academy, the student is given an asset-based behavioral and educational assessment, which is what parents, teachers and the treatment team use to determine an individualized treatment plan for the young man. Starr also offers an “outdoor” classroom experience for the students to help them experience what the traditional classrooms do not offer. These experiences include fishing, camping, skiing, canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, etc.

At Starr Academy, students participate in peer group treatment and multidisciplinary teamwork. The focus is to promote academics, character development, daily living skills, career development/life planning, civic duty/service development, social development and learning employable skills. In this vain, students at Starr Academy participate in several community projects including Habitat for Humanity.
