| From Strugglingteens.com Breaking News Pacific Quest Hilo, HI PQ Announces New Location For Young AdultsContact: JD Daubs Admissions Director 808-896-3688 jd@pacificquest.org www.pacificquest.org August 22, 2012 Pacific Quest has successfully worked with adolescents, on the Big Island of Hawaii, since 2004. Several years ago, we were asked by a number of referring professionals to consider serving the young adult population. Referring professionals noted our respectful approach, creative programming, clinical expertise and inspiring setting were a perfect fit for their young adult clients. Heeding the call, Pacific Quest opened its young adult program at our Ka'u location in 2010, and began offering its unique and effective brand of quality programming to young adults who could benefit from the Pacific Quest Sustainable Growth model. As our young adult program became the "program of choice" for many referring professionals, we challenged ourselves to enhance and perfect our offerings, ensuring we continue to meet the specific needs of the young adult client. We are pleased to announce we have recently moved our young adult program to a brand new location! Pacific Quest at Reeds Bay operates on a beautiful, five-acre, ocean front property, which boasts an 8,000 square ft. facility complete with a large, commercial kitchen and, simple yet modern, sleeping quarters. Young adults spend each day outdoors tending to the Reeds Bay Garden or working together in the village camps. Lush, shaded areas provide beautiful landscapes for group and individual therapy sessions, personal reflection, and yoga. A hollow clearing beyond the shaded marsh gives way to a small bay where young adults can kayak with their therapist and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of the quiet setting. Young adults learn valuable life skills, participating in a Culinary Arts program by preparing healthy, familiar "farm to table" meals in the Reeds Bay kitchen. This helps each young adult to learn the important connection between nutrition and wellness. Days are structured with an emphasis on personal accountability, emotional health, time management, and the five pillars of health (Diet, Breathing, Exercise and the Mind/Body Connection). Modern bunkrooms and bathrooms help students return to a regular schedule of sleep, personal hygiene and self-care, all of which are integral to self-esteem and investment in the process. These and other "real world" living skills are practiced and perfected in a community setting, and most importantly, are translatable to life after Pacific Quest. Our Clinical Department provides comprehensive individual and group therapy for each young adult. Therapists are integrated into the culture of the program, working closely with their young adult clients and facilitating clinical therapy groups several times each week. Pacific Quest utilizes horticulture therapy and a Rites of Passage curriculum to integrate clinical goals in a safe, experiential and inspiring environment. Therapists create an extensive Treatment Plan for each young adult client to effectively treat specific mental or behavioral health issues. Therapists communicate with family members, referring professionals and previous health care professionals to ensure that the goals and objectives in the treatment plan incorporate information from the entire system and that the outcomes are sustainable and portable to the next setting. Our Wellness Department educates young adults on the connection between Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep and physical, mental and emotional health. Within the first week or two, young adults are experiencing more energy and a greater desire to face personal challenges and issues. PQ at Reeds Bay combines the safety and structure of a residential setting with the physical and spiritual benefits of an outdoor program. Our Sustainable Growth model focuses on the Mind, Body and Emotions in a highly clinical and experiential setting. Our new location allows us to work with a maximum of 30 young adults, ages 18-25. Average length of stay is between 8-10 weeks but the program is individually tailored to the specific needs of each young adult. © Copyright 2012 by Woodbury Reports, Inc. |
