The New Beginning Ministry was founded in 1997. Thomas Musgrove, who just left the staff of the Family Foundation School in New York, has now established an alcohol and substance abuse treatment program as an additional part of the Ministry, called Joel’s Sober House and Evergreen Lodge. These are independently-run recovery retreats based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous for young people age 18 and older.
“New Beginning represents a non-medical approach to alcohol and drug addiction. We employ no counselors or therapists in this self-governing, spirit-centered community. We believe that survivors of addiction are the real experts on recovery….”
“New Beginning functions as an extended family, providing structure, guidance, discipline, support, and education. The ministry’s “A Design for Living” program includes morning meditation meetings, discussion meetings, recovery audio and video meetings, living skills workshops, Alcoholic’s Anonymous meetings, Narcotic’s Anonymous meetings, recovery workshops, daily chapel readings, speaker meetings, twelve step meetings, and relapse prevention. New Beginning offers a G.E.D. program for those in need of this component.”
