Arthur F Goodearl, Jr
Appointed Head of School

On behalf of the Marvelwood School Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Arthur F Goodearl, Jr, as the sixth Head of School for Marvelwood School effective July 1, 2011. This unanimous decision was made after a lengthy search that began last fall by a selected Search Committee comprised of alumni, faculty, parents and trustees of the school. This appointment concludes finding a replacement for Scott E Pottbecker after his August announcement that he would be leaving Marvelwood at the end of this school year. We are proud and grateful for the leadership and dedication Scott has given to Marvelwood School.

Arthur is a graduate of Harvard College and also earned a MALS degree in History from Wesleyan University. Art's prior leadership includes Head of the History Department, Coordinator for the Ethics and Public Policy Program, Co-Chair of the Long Range Planning Committee and Student Dean, in addition to serving as the Assistant Headmaster and Dean of Faculty at Hillside School. Art has been involved in all aspects of an independent school including faculty development, curriculum development, strategic planning, development and admission outreach, construction oversight, crisis management, parent communication and student life.

Marvelwood School is a co-ed boarding and day school for non-traditional learners, ages 14-17 years old. Marvelwood works with students who may have difficulty with school due to mild learning differences while living in a close knit community that provides structure and guidance, in addition to introducing the young men and women to Community Service, not as a duty but as a commitment to helping others.
