Greenbrier Academy is proud to introduce Mark A. Dennison Ph.D., Psy.D. as our new Academic Director. Mark comes to Greenbrier with over 26 years as a Professional Educator and Administrator in both the public and private sectors of education. He has also balanced his academic assignments with those of Clinical and Program Directorships for the past 20 years in various therapeutic settings. Combining these years and work experiences, Mark has experience in a wide array of service areas including, traditional public schools, private schools, therapeutic schools, outpatient clinics, and residential treatment centers.
Mark brings with him a myriad of knowledge, which will enhance our goal of continually striving to offer the very best services for our students and their families. He has worked in six states to include Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Georgia, Virginia and now West Virginia. He holds numerous licensures, certifications and specialized training in many areas of academics, including the Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction and the Saxon math teaching method.
Mark has been highly regarded by his students, their parents and his peers as an enthusiastic instructor with a great sense of humor and powerful presence. When discussing his passion for working with young people Mark stated; "I bring an understanding of how wonderful, deep and awe inspiring young people are to Greenbrier Academy. I have made working with youth my chosen career due to my passion and belief in their power. To see these young people make significant life altering choices that better their cognitive and behavioral expression in all relationships respectfully, is a journey well worth the quest."
Additionally, in a bittersweet note, we say good-bye to Jim and Liz Gordon. As many of you know, Jim has been our Academic Director for the last year and Liz is a member of our talented clinical team. Jim has an opportunity to take a step up in his career path. We appreciate him acting as our Academic Director and wish him well in his role as Executive Director at his new school. While we wish them the very best in their relocation, we will miss them as part of the Greenbrier family. We do expect a smooth transition in the academic department and will be working with Liz as she transitions her students to either graduation or one of our other therapists.
