The Forman School is a college preparatory school designed to help students who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and/or attention disorders to achieve “academic excellence” by providing remedial instruction that is specific to his or her unique learning style and needs.

In order to be eligible for admission, students must have “adequate cognitive skills,” and be within three years of their actual grade level in reading. Also required are comprehensive psychological and achievement testing that are current within 2 years. The Forman applicant should also have a strong desire to attend college, as this is the ultimate goal of successfully attending The Forman School.

“Forman does not accept students with primary social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties,” that is, “behaviors that persist despite successful experience, or behaviors that will limit other students’ ability to engage in the learning process.” Forman may not be able to best meet the needs of students with a Non Verbal Learning Disorder, though they can “support students whose primary deficits in the visual- spatial-organizational, processing, or fine motor realms.” They are “most successful working with students who also have language based weaknesses,” but “cannot meet the needs of students who have significant deficits in gross motor and/or social skills.”
