On November 19, Cedar Ridge Academy will be introducing extra-curricular clubs with each teacher creating a club. Previously, the only club on campus had been the Student Council run by Christine Haggerty as the head of school. Now, five more clubs will be added. Each club will meet every other Friday starting on December 3rd.
Science teacher, Chad Hamblin, will be starting a club focused on lifetime hobbies. Chad's hobbies already include hiking, cross-country skiing, making musical instruments out of anything, and occasionally looking for Bigfoot.
Guidance counselor and art teacher, Jim Munford, will have a club that will allow students to explore with different materials and be creative. He will bring his love of building and creating things into this group and help students discover their own abilities to create.
Michael Caudle as the English and art teacher is starting an art club for students to explore their talents outside of the classroom. Michael has extensive experience in art as well as facilitating art shows across the country. Students can expect to have fun and gain some real-life experience from creating and facilitating art shows.
Layne Southam as the math teacher will be exploring math and science topics, starting with converting vegetable oil into a bio diesel. Students are very excited for this opportunity to place math and science concepts into hands on applications.
Finally, social studies teacher Kimberly Hawks will be starting the Cedar Ridge Academy Choir. Kimberly is a lifelong singer and is very excited to bring this group to our Academy. CRA is especially excited for this group, as we all know the positive benefits to a student's emotional and mental development from music and singing.
Overall, we look forward to creating a more complete culture at our school with these new avenues for students to learn. The student council has worked hard to create these clubs and is very excited to see them becoming a reality.
