BlueFire Wilderness Therapy is a premier wilderness therapy program for troubled teens and teens struggling with emotional, social and behavioral challenges. We utilize a comprehensive approach to teen treatment based on research and decades of experience. Teens ages 11 – 17 receive a leading and comprehensive adventure experience that can help them – and help the entire family.





Therapist


Summary
Reports to Clinical Director, Assistant Clinical Director and Executive Director; ensures that mental health treatment services are provided in a way that maximizes client independence and family empowerment; provides individual and group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, and educational development and adjustment.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provides individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Evaluates data to identify causes of problems of individuals and to determine advisability of counseling or may refer to other specialist or institutions.
  • Conducts counseling or therapeutic interviews to assist individuals to gain insight into personal problems, define goals, and plan action reflecting interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Provides occupational, educational, and other information to enable individuals to formulate realistic educational and vocational plans.
  • Follows up results of counseling to determine reliability and validity of treatment used.
  • Documents in medical record according to requirements of company and regulatory agencies.
  • Provides crisis intervention consultation.
  • May be required to provide a minimum number of hours weekly, as specified by superior or director.
  • May teach various educational classes (parenting, domestic violence, anger management, etc.) and provide on-site therapy.
  • Participates in program development and staff in-services.
  • Performs administrative functions consistent with the needs of the program.
  • Participates in scheduled meetings and trainings as required.
  • Provides crisis intervention consultation.
  • Supervises client care and ensures physical and emotional safety of each.
  • Ensures the appropriate utilization and teaching of course curriculum.
  • Conducts assigned therapeutic training of instructors.
  • Conducts and directs program-specific experiential group activities as assigned.
  • Participates in program evaluation, planning, and development.
  • Provides appropriate communication with parents, educational consultants, and related professionals.

Educational/Licensing Requirements
Education or Equivalent Master's degree from accredited school in social work, psychology,
counseling, or related field.
Certificates/Licenses Licensed LCSW or MFT (Milieu therapist work under a licensed therapist); first aid and CPR; must have Crisis Prevention Institute's NVCI or equivalent training in the past 12 months; valid driver's license also required.

Level of Supervision

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
Minimum of two years of experience with inpatient, outpatient, and/or mental health care; must have direct clinical and case management experience, group leadership experience, and knowledge regarding rehabilitation philosophy; strong clinical land interpersonal skills, ability to lead and direct work of others, and excellent written and verbal communication skills; intermediate level PC skills.

Physical Requirements
Carrying up to 60 pounds, reaching, bending, and climbing; physically capable with ATVˇ¦s, snowmobiles, and 4-wheel drive vehicles; walking and hiking great distances likely.

Decision-Making Responsibilities

Logistics Manager


Summary
Reports to Operations Director or designee; coordinates with administration to procure and supply materials to the field; assists in other times of need or crisis; responsible to oversee safe and reliable condition of all program vehicles and safe transportation of clients.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Oversees and transports clients or employees as necessary and ensures safety of clients while transporting.
  • Oversees inventory management and procuring of supplies, equipment, and clothing for use in the program.
  • Manages client intakes.
  • Ensures camp sites are properly equipped and set up.
  • Demonstrates competency with policy, procedures, equipment, and supplies.
  • Oversees adherence to policies and procedures and emergency protocols as needed.
  • Participates in ongoing quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Participates in and attends meetings and training as required.
  • Assists when asked to maintain good relationships with the community and local agencies.
  • Acts in the capacity of consultant to Operations Director with regard to logistics, transportation, and safety issues.
  • On-call duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
Must be able to safely operate equipment and vehicles and have basic knowledge and experience with vehicle (also ATV and snowmobile) maintenance.
Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds, bend and reach; some walking with students is probable. Must pass a pre-employment physical.

Assistant Field Director


Summary
Reports to Program Director; responsible for field safety, recruiting and hiring, field training, group placement and supervision of field staff; works with land management associations and has knowledge of relevant state regulations and licensing standards.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Coordinates field operations including staff scheduling, quality assurance, site selections, field safety, and policies and procedures applicable to field operations.
  • Responsible for recruitment, professional development, assignment of duties, approval for leave requests and expenses, performance management and personnel actions, and serving as a resource for consultation and advice for support and professional staff.
  • Communicates regularly with representatives from admissions with regard to client placement and program status.
  • Attends scheduled conferences and/or training as assigned.
  • Supervises field staff and ensures compliance with company and state land-use regulations; ensures safety and whereabouts of clients.
  • Ensures field instructors are providing appropriate teaching moments and expanding the knowledge of clients.
  • Interacts with clinical department to determine the appropriateness of client placement.
  • Schedules group changes and matches client needs and staff strengths.
  • Collaborates with other program managers to update and improve communication materials and ensure compliance with related policies and procedures.
  • Integrates best program practices with organizational practices and models behavior.
  • Participates in ongoing quality assurance activities as assigned; maintains a clean and safe work area, with an active role in QA meetings.
  • Completes reports as needed for inventory, use and QA.
  • Responsible for organizing and distributing supplies needed for expeditions and adventures.
  • Plans group itineraries for expeditions and adventures. Ensuring lesson plans are in place.

Certificates/Licenses Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, or Wilderness First Responder; must have had Crisis Prevention Institute's NVCI or equivalent training in the past 12 months; valid driver's license also required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
Three years of experience in adventure/wilderness programs to include two years of experience in supervising field staff; working knowledge of relevant regulations and licensing standards; must be mature, patient in stressful/crisis situations, and display strong communication and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements
Carrying up to 60 pounds, reaching, bending, and climbing; mastery of primitive living skills required, and hiking great distances likely.

Head Wilderness Field Instructor


Summary
Reports to Program Director or designee and therapists; responsible for safety, supervision, and determining whereabouts of clients; provides direct care, teaches primitive living and outdoor skills, and delivers academic curriculum to assigned groups; directs activities and provides additional on-the-job training for lower-level field instructors.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Supervises, provides safety guidance, and determines whereabouts of clients.
  • Works with treatment team to fulfill specific needs for each client.
  • Utilizes and teaches approved curriculum.
  • Responsible for overseeing day-to-day health and safety concerns.
  • Monitors and records client growth and development on a daily basis.
  • Maintains appropriate example to clients in all areas of personal conduct and appearance.
  • Demonstrates and teaches primitive-living skills, use of field equipment, gear, and supplies necessary for successful participation in the program.
  • Operates as the designated lead for his/here group.
  • Provides additional on-the-job training necessary for Field Instructor Iˇ¦s to perform duties.
  • Provides additional client development through mentoring.
  • Plans, supervises, and oversees client field location for the upcoming week in collaboration with therapist and Field Director.
  • May report efforts in meetings with supervisors, clinicians, and other applicable program staff.
  • Responsible for distributing client medications.
  • Communicates client progress with members of treatment team.
  • Responsible for a group of clients on shift.
  • Facilitates and administers all elements of the program, including graduation and family workshops, in a safe manner during adverse conditions.
  • Participates, as required, in management meetings, strategic planning sessions, and serves as a major resource for program and field staff growth and development.
  • Acts as ˇ§in-the-fieldˇ¨ administrator, monitoring the group and field staff's compliance with state and program guidelines, providing documentation and disciplinary review.
  • May be required to serve on the emergency response team.

Educational/Licensing Requirements
Education or Equivalent Must be at least 21 years of age; at least 6 weeks of experience as a field instructor in an adventure/wilderness program; high school diploma or GED required (college-level courses in a related field preferred).
Certificates/Licenses First aid and CPR required; also EMT, WEMT, or WFR certification; current driver's license required; must have Crisis Prevention Institute's NVCI or equivalent training in the last 12 months.
Commitment One year commitment preferred for full time
