Cammie Bertram and Jeremy McGeorge from Bertram Educational Consultants attended a fund raiser for the Green Schools Alliance, a project of Global Environmental Options: GEO.

This truly inspiring event was hosted in New York City at the Green Depot (an innovative supplier of environmentally friendly and sustainable building products.) The gala was framed by shelves of products ranging from solar water purification units to cooperatively produced baby goods for our next generation. With over 100 guests ranging from celebrities, political candidates and young students, to members of the New York Department of Education, there was a lively and diverse crowd to offer support to an emerging organization.

The Green School Alliance (GSA) started because ONE little boy wanted to celebrate Earth Day in his first grade class at Allen-Stevenson, and because ONE mother wanted to make every day Earth Day for her son. The Green Schools Alliance is a non-profit group created by schools for schools, working with and through pre-K to grade 12 schools worldwide to meet their energy and sustainability goals, raise environmental awareness, and empower students, as well as faculty and staff. This growing network of "schools guiding schools" is dedicated to galvanizing individual concerns about climate change and the environment into collective action to protect our shared future. In just 18 months, by word of mouth, the GSA has grown to include nearly 2,000 public and private schools in 36 states and 10 countries.

Comprised of students, administrators, faculty, facility managers, business officers, and parents, the GSA leverages schools' experience, expertise and passion to build a green community across boundaries. Schools with advanced greening knowledge mentor other schools. This network helps schools to meet their individual climate and sustainability goals, while maximizing environmental benefits for the greatest number. GSA provides a menu of opportunities that engage all members of the school community to work together to ensure a safe and healthy environment for future generations through the implementation of sustainable, energy-smart solutions today.

Bertram Educational Consultants is the first educational consulting firm to seek membership in this progressive organization. Through their affiliations with SSATB, NAIS, TABS, NATSAP, and SBSA, the Bertram Team hopes to be instrumental in spreading the word and broadening GSA's membership base. In the inspired words of one 10th grade ambassador from Pace Academy in Atlanta, GA as he addressed the crowd, "I have a dream that we will have the courage to make the right decisions and take action towards a brighter future." May we all live so passionately with deliberate intention.
