Benchmark Transitions Welcomes Laura Nelson To Primary Case Management Team

Benchmark Transitions is pleased to welcome Laura Nelson, MA, MFT Trainee, to the position of Primary Case Manager. Laura brings a wealth of professionalism and experience to Benchmark Transitions. Laura will be responsible for case management of Benchmark's Behavioral Health clients, providing individual and family coaching, counseling and case management, as well as facilitating process groups and therapeutic milieu curriculum. She will coordinate with treatment team members, including academic, life skills, therapeutic and residential teams. She will oversee and maintain a caseload of young adult clients as they progress through Benchmark's young adult transitional program.

Laura holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and an MA in Clinical Psychology (MFT Emphasis) from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, in Irvine, CA. Laura began her career as a sexual assault crisis counselor, providing crisis counseling at a 24-hour sexual assault crisis hotline and advocating for victims. She has also been a women's emergency shelter advocate, providing crisis counseling to residents of an emergency shelter. Laura facilitated intake and assessments, enforced emergency shelter policies and procedures, managed and trained interns and volunteers, provided crisis intervention and conflict resolution with residents. In addition, Laura has facilitated therapist hours, with physician oversight at a professional counseling center, where she provided individual, family and couples therapy; administered and interpreted personality indicators; attended weekly individual and group supervision; maintained a caseload of patients in a community mental health setting and created individualized treatment plans and progress notes.
