Nearly all parents and professionals recognize that the needs of students with social skill or executive functioning deficits do not stop when students turn 18. That is why the team at Beacon Transitions is so very excited to announce the opening of their multi-tiered transitional living program for students ages 18-26 with social skill and executive functioning needs.

In the heart of Western North Carolina, Beacon Transitions offers an array of transactional services to young adults ages 18-26 working towards independence. Beacon Transitions is an intentional living community that provides a safe, family-like environment for students with autism spectrum disorder to practice vocational skills, post-secondary education, social skills, independent living, and other critical life skills.

Executive director, Kelly Stamey and Program director, Aaron McGinley offer a combined 30 years of experience with individuals with special needs, specifically with those on the autism spectrum. Kelly's rich background focuses on vocational and young adult program design. She has spent time working with employers and individuals; both developing and directing a long-term residential program, and creating a vocation/small buisness program for a community provider.

Independently owned and operated, Beacon provides a wide array of services that reflect their holistic philosophy. The close-knit community allows for each young adult to create genuine connections with their peers and staff to receive truly individualized support, specific to their needs. The day at Beacon has a structured schedule that focuses to connect each young adult to the community, to each other, and puts them on track towards meaningful employment and/or education.

The Beacon house offers communal living practice for each young adult throughout his or her time at Beacon Transitions. Students are matched with a roommate upon enrollment, and the house serves as a socially supportive hub for the students who have stepped down to a less supervised phase of independent apartment living.

Throughout their time at Beacon Transitions, students are offered an opportunity to work diligently to develop a plan for progress for their life after the program. Once they have reached a level of independence, Beacon's structure allows for students to experience a seamless transition from the Beacon House into a successful and independent life.
