Trysh Huntington, MA LMFT joins The Academy at Trails Carolina as Clinical Director and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Academy team.

Trysh is excited about her transition from wilderness therapy to the long term care of therapeutic boarding at Trails Academy. "It is a natural progression for me professionally," She explains. "Wilderness provides students with assessment and skill acquisition. Therapeutic boarding provides a safe place for them to begin to use those tools and apply them to real life in a nurturing and supportive environment."

In her new position as Clinical Director of Trails Academy, Trysh will guide the intentional family systems work that encompasses the core of the Trails Programming philosophy. In addition to carrying a case load of students, Trysh's role will include overseeing the quarterly Parent Workshops, and empowering parents with the tools needed to support their sons through treatment. At Trails Academy, parents and students have the opportunity to practice transference of the skills learned in primary assessment and stabilization. She explains, "I believe that here at The Academy, parents and students have a safe place where mistakes can happen without judgement, and growth comes from therapeutically guided teachable moments."

The Academy at Trails Carolina staff regularly participate in recreation activites with the students ranging from visual arts and music, to fly fishing, adventure sports, yoga and CrossFit. As an avid Mountain Biker, Trysh looks forward to embracing that culture and biking with students across the miles of trails in Dupont State Forest. "Being involved in their day to day life encourages a deeper level of investment and relationship that I believe is very powerful in building student's capacity for growth and change." comments Trysh. She also looks forward to utilizing her post graduate degree in Expressive Arts Therapy with the students in clinical sessions as well as recreationally to foster community.

Outside of work, Trysh can be found enjoying outdoor adventures with her Fiancé and two dogs. She feels that the pristine location of Trails Academy on a campus of 500 privately held acres surrounded by 10,000 acres of North Carolina State Forest is in keeping with her wilderness roots. "You couldn't ask for a more beautiful environment for aftercare than The Academy. On this campus, the healing power of nature continues to empower students as they begin to test the work."

Please join us in welcoming Trysh to The Academy at Trails Carolina Family!
