The story that is being reported about the missing teen from Red Rock Canyon School is actually inaccurate. The missing teen completed the adolescent residential treatment center and then transitioned into an 18 and older independent guidance center on her 18th birthday back in September 2006. The program is operated by Red Rock Canyon School but as a separate program. The rights of the independent guidance center are same as any 18 year old living on a college campus where they must report in by a curfew. Throughout the rest of the day they come and go to college and employment. Students throughout the learning process of becoming independent often test their boundaries and will go away from the program to test living on their own. Most often the students will come back within a day or two. Amanda, herself, has stayed out overnight before but always returned. When Amanda did not return we began to follow up on leads to try to relocate her as she does have friends in the community. We then contacted the police and continue as a program to relocate her. If you would like any information regarding our independent guidance program please feel free to contact Todd Hockenbury or Shaun Habibian at 435-673-6111.
