I am pleased to announce that CALO (Change Academy Lake of the Ozarks) has moved into its permanent facility on the shores of Lake Ozark. CALO has been open for three months now and we have been blessed with an overwhelmingly positive response to our specialized program. CALO is committed to providing World Class Adolescent Residential Treatment specializing in issues of Attachment, Trauma and Affect Regulation.

CALO is:

  • Sensitive to and focused on individual student needs.

  • Relationship centered utilizing attunement to help the student self-regulate.

CALO provides:

  • Transferable Attachment through the adoption of purebred canines.

  • A secure base created through relationships with staff, peers and purebred canines.

  • Direct coaching of relationship skills to the primary care relationship (parents, guardians, etc.)

  • Experiential Successes with aquatic activities on the Lake of the Ozarks.

CALO targets:

  • Attachment, Trauma and Affect Regulation.

  • Consistency and rhythms versus a regimented, inflexible, group based level system.

  • Effectiveness over efficiency.

  • Facilitating lifelong attachment and healing between families and their children.

  • Low staff to student ratio (never more than 1 to 4, currently less than 1 to 2)

  • Corrective Attachment Parenting-The goal of Corrective Attachment Parenting is not merely to change children's' behavior, but rather to change their negative core beliefs. This is quite challenging, because core beliefs are rigid, automatic, and associated with self-protection and survival. The parental relationship with the child becomes the pathway to change and healing. Without change, negative core beliefs formed early in life remain fixed into adulthood, with severe social and emotional consequences.

CALO believes in safe, researched therapeutic practices and does not use holding or provoking interventions.

Please feel free to contact me with questions about the CALO program.
