AIM House is pleased to announce the opening of our newest residence, the Merge House. With a capacity for five, the Merge House is intended to provide a less structured environment for women who have already been at AIM House for a minimum of 6 months. Founder, Daniel Conroy explains, "The Merge house was created for young women who are ready to make the next step toward independence while still benefiting from a positive AIM House community setting. Residents at the Merge House have earned the opportunity to live there after successfully completing the Intention and Action phases of our program.".
At the head of the Merge House is Jen Abbott, the Director of Continuum Services, who has been working with the women's program since it opened in 2005. Originally from Rhode Island, Jen has spent a number of years working in the wilderness therapy industry and is currently completing her Master's degree in counseling psychology from Naropa University. Jen feels that in this stage of the program it is important to hold the participants accountable for following through with their intentions. "After looking at the research as well as AIM House history, we decided to expand the curriculum into a more graduated transition process, starting with the women's program. The Merge House provides a safety net of support when participants struggle, but at this point in the program, the women are responsible for taking the skills they have learned in the previous phases and merging them into working towards their goals".
