Aspen Education Group, the nation's leading provider of therapeutic and education programs for struggling and underachieving youth, today announced that it has acquired Camp Huntington, a co-ed summer camp for children and young adults with autism and related special needs located in High Falls, New York.

Founded in 1961, Camp Huntington serves youth with varying degrees of learning disabilities and developmental disorders. The therapeutic recreation program is set on a 34-acre rural site and provides a fun, safe summer experience for six to 21-year-olds. This serene, camp-like setting is often the child's first experience away from home, and allows for the unique opportunity of peer and group socialization, relationship and self-confidence building, and the development of fine and gross motor skills, resulting in increased independence.

"We are delighted to welcome Camp Huntington into the Aspen Education Group family of programs," said Elliot Sainer, president of Aspen. "While the Huntington program enrolls youth with more severe cases of developmental disabilities than Aspen's other programs, all share the same passion and commitment to improve the quality of life for young people, as well as the foundation of quality, integrity and dependability."

The camp serves youth diagnosed with autism, mental retardation and other developmental or learning disorders, and sessions vary from one to seven weeks. The campers are grouped by age and ability, not by diagnosis, and spend time swimming, playing music, cooking, indoor climbing, singing and acting. Camp administrators believe all of their special campers possess "hidden abilities."

"We look forward to continuing our half-century tradition of high-level professional service while providing a safe program structure for social and intellectual growth," said Daniel Falk, executive director and 20-year veteran of Camp Huntington. "We're also pleased to continue serving the many campers who come back year after year, and to welcome our new ones on June 24th."

Aspen Education Group is recognized nationwide as the leading provider of education programs for underachieving and struggling youths. Aspen offers the largest and most diversified network of therapeutic schools and programs in the country, tailored to meet the unique and individual academic and emotional needs of youths and their families. Students in Aspen's schools and programs benefit from the experience and depth of understanding that comes from two decades of dedication to children, teens and young adults. Aspen Education Group's programs have been profiled internationally in news and television media, including U.S. News and World Report, The New York Times, People and Education Week magazines, as well as on ABC's "20/20" and "Good Morning", the UK's Twenty/Twenty Productions' six-week series, "Brat Camp," and the syndicated television show "Dr. Phil." No other organization in the therapeutic education industry offers a more enlightened approach, or a more diverse and reputable network of programs. Aspen is a division of CRC Health Group, the nation's largest chemical dependency and related behavioral health organization.
