Sober College held its monthly Motivational Conference Series with headlining guest Deezer D, actor from over ten major motion pictures, including CB4, and the hit TV Series ER. The West Hills Campus had a full house consisting of students and staff members.
"An event like this one tells me we made the right choice in opening Sober College in a place like Woodland Hills," says Brian Brekke, Director of Operations. "Being located in the midst of the media and entertainment capital of the world allows us to bring speakers like this to our students. I've worked in programs located in Montana and Utah and getting a person like this to come in is always an uphill battle. Deezer D is a busy guy, so it's easier for him to carve out the hour that we needed him for. This is a win-win situation for him, for us and for our students."
The Principle of Attraction
"If you make the choice to stay sober your dreams are that much closer to becoming a reality. See, where I come from no one thought their dreams could actually come true, I mean, dreams were make-believe to me as a boy growing up, and this is compounded by my own struggles." Coming from the mouth of Deezer D, who has been in over ten hit movies including Bringing Down the House, and Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, the students were compelled to ask questions relating their own struggles.
As the Director of Public Education, Annika Richards reinforced that, "Sober College will stop at nothing to bring our students the idea that life is better sober."
About the Series
The Motivational Conference Series is a part of an ongoing series of guest speakers invited to address the student body at Sober College's main campus. Annika Richards, states that, "These conferences make a huge impact on how the students view their own recovery. For some, it is the first time they make the connection between recovery and having a good time. Some even hope to follow in the speaker's footsteps and relay their message to others in the future." The purpose of the Series is to show, by example and experience, the positive opportunities that come with sobriety.
Sober College's Educational Director, Michael Cahlin states, "What an amazing tool to have sobriety and recovery represented to our young adult students by successful entertainment professionals."
