Established in 1902, the Weekly Reader Corporation publishes 16 magazines to more than nine million students, some 250,000 teachers in grades pre-K through grade 12, and more than 90 percent of the school districts nationwide.
"Know Your World Extra" is a news and pop culture magazine targeted to middle and junior high school students.
The Feature Story of Issue 4 is Free Again. Evan is a former drug addict. He was almost kicked out of his house because of it. But Evan got treatment at Sober College, and now he has sobered up. Now Evan's back home, and he's turning his life around. He's even learning to play the guitar.
"Drug and alcohol addiction is a critical issue and a delicate one for middle and junior high school students," says Brian Brekke, Director of Operations. "We are extremely proud of Evan, his progress, and his willingness to share his story to help educate other youngsters about drug and alcohol addiction and potential treatment options.
