Residents and employees of San Cristobal Ranch Academy participated in a walk-a-thon titled "A Mile in Our Shoes," for the Dream Tree Project in Taos, New Mexico on September 10, 2006. The Dream Tree Project is a non-profit organization in Taos, New Mexico which provides placement and therapeutic services for homeless and neglected youth in the Taos community.

The seven-mile walk-a-thon was organized to raise funds to provide an emergency crisis shelter in the Taos community for youth needing a safe place immediately due to abuse and neglect. Currently, Taos County has no emergency shelter for youth in such need, and San Cristobal Ranch Academy was proud to sponsor and participate in this important event benefiting our community.

San Cristobal Ranch Academy emphasizes the importance of service to the community by all its residents, and this was a great opportunity for the young men at the Ranch to get involved. Molly Robertson of The Dream Tree Project expressed the organization's gratitude to San Cristobal Ranch Academy staff and students for sponsoring and participating in this event, stating "this was a very successful event for us, and ultimately for the community. We are thankful to both the staff and the students of San Cristobal Ranch Academy for being a part of this fund-raising effort which brings us closer to our goal of offering a safe emergency shelter for Taos."
