Foundations Behavioral Health is a JCAHO-accredited, non-profit hospital that "specializes" in the care of troubled teens and their families. They offer a full spectrum of care, including the Adolescent Acute Inpatient Treatment Program and the Residential Program, as well as a licensed alternative school for junior high and high school students.

The Adolescent Acute Inpatient Treatment Program is a lock-down facility that accepts teens with diagnosable psychiatric disorders such as suicidal behaviors, depression, behavior problems, severe anxiety, mood disorders and eating disorders. Appropriate individuals display behaviors that prevent treatment in a less restrictive setting and need medication stabilization due to eating disorders or drug toxicity. An assessment team, led by a board-certified psychiatrist, evaluates adolescents to assess individual psychiatric, medical and psycho-social conditions.

A less restrictive component offered by Foundations is their Residential Program that works with troubled teens, ages 14-18, who need a structured and supervised setting. Each residential unit is staffed 24-hours a day and houses up to 10 teens. The treatment team conducts psychiatric, psycho-social, nursing, educational, recreational and medical evaluations. This program focuses on individual responsibility, peer involvement, behavioral self-control and emotional growth. The staff encourages positive behavior, improving social skills, learning daily living skills, and resolving personal and family issues. Therapy involves setting achievable goals, individual psychotherapy, community meetings, and group and family therapy. Foundations also offers recreational and vocational therapies.

LifeWorks Alternative School, approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, offers a "strong academic curriculum, supportive teachers and a wide spectrum of counseling services." Students may enroll for a full academic year or a shorter transitional period of time. Struggling students get individualized instruction, while receiving counseling services that allow them opportunities to learn skills necessary for success. The ultimate goal is to develop motivation and success at school, which enables students to return to a regular school curriculum and / or fulfill requirements for graduation.
