Ten years ago all we had was an idea. The idea seemed simple: create a school in which struggling young men are afforded the opportunity to be in control of their lives and to author their own successes; where they themselves reconnect with the infinite possibilities that await them; where they are treated with respect, where their conflicts, contradictions, and struggles are accepted as a necessary part of their journey to manhood. There would be no phases, no levels, and no lingo. Instead, our students would confront their struggles and self-imposed limitations through real experiences, real successes, and real failures, guided by mentors modeling authentic relationships.

After 10 years and a few hundred graduates I can tell you that it's far from simple! What were we thinking! Nonetheless, our approach has been effective. Largely because the time our students spend with us is so real and organic. The Ranch is steeped in a time gone by. It embodies an ethic and culture that is often overlooked in today's hustle and bustle. Those of you who know us can attest that there is no façade, no wizard behind the curtain. The ranch may not always be pretty, nor may we. We are helping our guys navigate a messy time, and that in itself can be messy. We have found our work to be truly enriching. As with all good things our community is a reflection of the work and devotion of our staff, families, supports, and our students. Each day is greeted with the hope that every member of the community will be afforded the ability to reconnect with themselves and view (for the first time in a while) the infinite possibilities ahead.

Monte, Tom, and I have such respect and gratitude for those of you who have supported us with your conversations, your trust, and most important your laughter and lightness. This never would have happened without you. We thank you for being members of our community (no matter how far removed) as we seek to build another decade to reflect, grow, and aid our students across the long bridge to adulthood.

Wisdom Ranch School is a small, alternative boarding high school for young men that combines academics, character development, and ranch living into a unique and enriching experience.
