Eric Fawson, MSW, LCSW, Primary Wilderness Therapist specializes in Adoption Issues, Substance Abuse, Grief and Loss, Self-Esteem issues, and Mood Disorders. He comes to WinGate with over 10 years of experience in the field of adolescent and family care. From starting out as a line staff, becoming a therapist; most recently as a Clinical Director, co-founder of Silverado Academy and many positions in between. Eric received his Master's Degree in Social Work from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in clinical work. Eric is passionate about his work with families and particularly appreciates working in the area of adoption; Eric is often sought out for his expertise in this area. Eric also brings a history of working in the arenas of substance abuse, grief, self esteem and mood disorders with both adolescents and adults. Eric is known for his dedication to clients, his ability to connect with adolescents and families, humor and wearing shorts and sandals in the middle of winter. Eric served in the Boys Scouts of America for nearly twenty years and an ecclesiastical two year service mission to Brazil. Growing up surfing the beaches of Hawaii, to climbing her majestic mountains, Eric has always been an outdoor enthusiast. Living in Southern Utah for the past five years, Eric has fallen in love with the area and often spends his weekends exploring the million plus square miles of wilderness and gazing at the stellar scenery.
Eric and his wife of nearly 20 years have five children, with their oldest being eighteen and their youngest just turning two. Eric has always been active, from horseback riding, hiking, ATV'ing, a myriad of sports, coaching sports, playing mechanic, and one of his favorite pass times, mowing his lawn. Most recently, Eric has taken up running and is scheduled to run his first marathon in St. George this coming October. If you ask Eric what his favorite pass time is, he will answer, anything involving his children, particularly supporting them exploring their talents in sports, acting, shooting, academics, and recently his two year old daughter has started to sing with him when he plays guitar.
Core to Eric's philosophy in working with clients is seeing the individual as a person of self worth, forging relationships, and staying "out of the box". A major part of what attracted Eric to Wingate is the similarities in their approach to working with people. Eric is extremely excited about joining the Wingate team and looking forward to a long successful future of continuing to help families.
