Citing her "undying compassion for the quality of medical services for those entrusted to our care," Willow Springs Center CEO Jim Serratt announced the appointment of Dana M. Arlien, MD, to Medical Director. Dr. Arlien previously served as a staff psychiatrist, then Chief of Staff and recently held the post of Interim Medical Director during the nationwide search for medical director.
An accomplished author, avid outdoors person and the recipient of numerous academic awards and scholarships, Dr. Arlien is a former participant in NASA's Space Life Sciences Training Program. She completed her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Nevada, School of Medicine, where she was chief fellow for child and adolescent psychiatry. She is licensed to practice medicine in the State of Nevada.
She earned her Doctor of Medicine Degree at the University of Nevada, Reno, and her Bachelor of Science degree with honors in neurobiology, physiology and behavior at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Arlien received the Outstanding Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Resident Award in 2006 from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
With John Chappel, she co-authored the chapter "Treating Intoxication and Withdrawal" in Correctional Psychiatry: Practice Guidelines and Strategies, published by Civic Research Institute.
Former medical director, Jason Walenta, MD, PhD, has chosen to focus his work on Willow Springs' state-of-the-art Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program, and is now Service Director of the DBT program. He remains a staff psychiatrist treating Willow's pediatric and adolescent patients.
Willow Springs Center is a 116-bed locked psychiatric residential treatment center in Reno, Nevada, specializing in difficult-to-treat children and teens, ages 5-17, who are struggling with psychiatric and dual diagnosis issues.
