Naropa University's Wilderness Therapy Symposium brings together a wide variety of professionals who share a love of the outdoors and integrate nature into their work. The Symposium's interactive, experiential workshops encourage collaboration between the fields of Adventure Therapy, Eco-psychology, and Clinical Psychology. Skills, knowledge, and ideas are shared openly between professionals, schools, and programs.
All workshops must be experiential, audience inclusive and provide specific skills that can be applied in the field.
1.5-Hour Sessions - These shorter presentations are a great opportunity to expose participants to various theories and ideas. Sessions are held in a classroom setting at Naropa University. 1.5 hour presenters receive free admission to the symposium.*
3-Hour Sessions - These extended sessions are experiential workshops designed to provide clinical skills, wilderness skills, or other topics with audience participation. Sessions are held in classroom settings or on the lawn. 3-hour presenters receive free admission to the symposium.*
6-Hour Workshops - These are in-depth experiential workshops that take place in outdoor, natural settings in and around Boulder, Colorado. Examples of previous workshops include climbing, primitive skills, outdoor therapeutic skills, process groups, rites and rituals, etc. Those who are selected to present these workshops will receive $400 compensation, up to $200 for room and board, and free admission to the symposium.*
* Please note that Naropa offers one free admission / stipend per session or workshop. If there are multiple presenters, free admission / stipend will be split.
