Sharon Stricker of Whetstone Academy gives a warm welcome to Margaret George as the new Whetstone Academy Director. At her request, Sharon moves to Director of Admissions/Business Development which she has been wanting to do for some time now. Margaret comes to Whetstone from Lake House Academy, our sister program, where she has been working with Administration and with the counseling department for the last 2 years. She comes to us with over 20 years' experience in residential treatment. Margaret got her start at Paint Rock Valley with Three Springs and was the founder of New Direction, Three Springs Transitional Program. She has been instrumental in opening, developing and running therapeutic programs. She will be a key ingredient in taking a school that has had a successful opening into the future and helping it reach its fullest potential.
Prior to joining LHA, Margaret was known for her work with boys at the former Three Springs of North Carolina program. Margaret states, "While I have enjoyed working with girls, I am thrilled to be surrounded by boys again. I love their enthusiasm and spontaneity. The Whetstone property is the perfect setting for middle school boys to learn and grow."
The Whetstone campus features a home and small dormitory that sits on Brian's Lake. We are working on plans to increase our capacity allowing us to increase the number of young boys we can serve.
We are thrilled to have Margaret's expertise on our campus. We look forward to sharing more about our growth in the months to come.
Sharon and Margaret were interviewed by Lon Woodbury on September 17, 2014. Listen to Sharon and Margaret explain about Whetstone being a small boarding school for young boys using a Montessori environment.
