Dear Friends,

As we hit the five year anniversary of Whetstone Academy, I am excited to announce two changes in our organization. I am owner of Whetstone and have served as Head of School since our opening. As we move from "start-up" to sustainability, I want to thank our dedicated staff, faithful supporters and fantastic families and friends. Most of all, our gratitude goes to Jean Stein and Michael Fischer of San Antonio, Texas, whose generosity brought this school onto the planet in 2011. Jean Stein's dedication to children and families is unparalleled!

My title will change to CEO as my focus shifts from daily school responsibilities to accreditation, marketing and (my favorite) ongoing family, student and consultant contact, lest I ever forget why we are all in this business to begin with!

So let me introduce our new Head of School:
Whetstone Academy is excited to welcome Glenn L. Singer, B.A., M.Ed. as our new Head of School. Glenn is known by many in the industry for his previous work at Grand River Academy and The Family Foundation School. Glenn graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio, where he majored in Psychology. Glenn's M.Ed. in School Management and Supervision was completed at Loyola University in Maryland, with a specialty focus on Private School Management.

Glenn has close to 20 years experience in the leadership and advancement of independent schools, K-12. He has a proven ability to cultivate relationships with parents, students, alumni and volunteers, along with a strong background in the revitalization, development and sustainability of systems.

In addition to his Academic experience, Glenn has close to 10 years experience in Mental Health Care and Mental Health Care Administration. This included work with inpatient adolescents and Crisis Intervention Services.

Of his new assignment, Glenn says: "I am beyond excited to be joining Sharon and the incredibly dedicated Whetstone staff, as we work together to continue doing outstanding work with young people and their families. I am honored and humbled by the faith and trust Sharon has placed in me and look forward to being at the helm at Whetstone Academy as it enters its next chapter."

In his free time Glenn enjoys involvement in community and semi-professional theater. He has been seen acting and singing on stage and working behind the scenes, including being on the Board of Directors of theaters in Annapolis and Baltimore. He has relocated to the area with his red-point Siamese cat.

Glenn can be reached at gsingerwhetstone@gmail.com or 864-638-6005.

Warm regards,
Sharon Stricker, M.S., M.Ed.
