West Ridge Academy had the unique privilege of having David Archuleta come to the campus and perform for the staff and students. A family friend of the Archuleta's was scheduled to be the keynote speaker for that night and asked David if he would come and sing a couple of songs and talk about his experience on American Idol and his future plans.

The place was packed and there was a lot of excitement as the crowd waited in anticipation of his arrival. David answered questions from the audience and one thing that impressed the students and staff was that he would say a prayer before every performance. Once he was on stage he would try to stay focused and in the zone, and sometimes not remember what the judges had said to him after the performance. He'd later replay the tapes to listen to their advice. He was careful in his song selection and would try to pick songs with good lyrics.

He sang the song, "Angels" that he performed on American Idol. He then sang his favorite hymn "Be Still, My Soul." He would think of this song often when he was away from home and would find comfort from it.

The question was asked how he was treated because of his religious beliefs. He said that people respected him for his beliefs and that a lot of them would ask questions. He learned a lot from being on the show, and is grateful for the chance he has to pursue his dream. He took the time afterwards to shake everyone's hand, sign autographs and take pictures. It was a night to remember, and those that attended were inspired by his talent and his humility.

I enjoyed reading your article regarding David's visit. He seems to be a very caring mature individual even though he is still in his teenage years. He reaches people through his love of music, his deep faith, and his personal experiences. I believe he is a beautiful role model for all ages, as he shows us what it is like to remain humble, respectful, and honorable. Thanks so much for the writeup.

Sincerely,
