Walden Living offers transitional living for young adults, 18 and over, who are in the process of transitioning from residential or hospitalization from anxiety and/or eating disorders at nearby Rogers Memorial Hospital. Residents learn and regain independent living skills while residing in a two bedroom apartment with shared living spaces. Parents also have the option to lease an apartment to be near their child while in treatment at Rogers Memorial Hospital.
A key feature to the services available at Walden Living is that of their personal coach, Delaine Oliphant, who in 2001, worked at the Eating Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Residential programs at Rogers Memorial Hospital. Delaine has a BA in psychology and is currently working on a nursing degree. Providing five hours of coaching per week to each individual, Delaine helps individuals with orientation to the community, assists them with scheduling of therapy or medical appointments, gives one on one support with daily living activities that include: transportation needs, grocery shopping, personal life skills and guidance in selecting the appropriate apartment at Walden Living. In addition, she is also a liaison to family, friends and healthcare providers.
Residents are within walking distance to several points of interest and activities including: a health club, sporting events, gift and specialty stores, bike shop, antique stores, parks and several restaurants and coffee shops and Rogers Memorial Hospital.
