Lon Woodbury recently interviewed Dennison Webb, the Executive Director of Selkirk Outdoor Leadership Education (SOLE), to talk with him about his program, a short term model that provides expedition adventures of 8-21 days in the backcountry.
As a former NOLS instructor, and field instructor with several wilderness programs and therapeutic boarding schools, Dennison, a self proclaimed life time learner and wilderness enthusiast, initially created his program to provide local youth the opportunity to experience the wilderness, and has been expanding to include struggling teens and young adults from elsewhere. So far, that dream has come true and SOLE is now providing these adventures to individuals from across the country.
Looking towards the future, Dennison shared that the program is in the process of developing a family element and component to their wilderness adventures, while "continuing to grow with intention." Or as he concluded: "in a nutshell, to solidify what we have created and expand the family dynamics."
