How have fathers today taken on the role of equal parenting? Have fathers changed in the last decade? And what does it take to be a stay at home dad, take on the responsibility of child rearing and household duties? Today on Parent Choices for Struggling Teens, Lon Woodbury and his co-host- Liz McGhee sat down with Adam Dolgin, a blogger and the founder of Fodder 4 Fathers.com, a website devoted to parenting tips, covering hot topics and a platform for real conversation starters for both moms and dads alike.

Adam, a working dad himself described how dads nowadays are getting involved immediately with parenting…from the moment their child is born, through diaper changes, nightly feedings and taking on the role of stay at home dads. Fathers are enjoying being "hands on" with their kids and are discovering pure joy in doing so. As Adam explained- "I am going to do the best I can and my wife had to get used to having me do things my way. Of course I will do it differently- we handle things differently- but there is not a best way of doing things. I think wives attitudes have changed over the years, yes they are still the "maternal gatekeepers" and the primary caregiver when they are born of course, but let me try it my way. I'm going to do the best I can."

With dad blogging striking out as a new concept, Adam shared his top three tips for dads who are just starting out and have the desire to be "hands on and totally involved" with parenting or who are serious in raising their children equally. This advice is especially helpful and useful for parents that are working full time and looking to build a solid foundation in this new adventure called Parenthood:

  1. Walk into this new endeavor of your life with a sense of humor

  2. Be hands on- from the very beginning, from day one of the birth of your child

  3. Adapt! You have to change with it and be flexible. To do so- don't forget tip #1

Both moms and dads start out not knowing if they'll be good parents, but being involved together can bring pure joy for both. "I started my website and blog because there was no real information for dads out there- I had to seek it out, so the idea for my site is to help the next dad. I hope you check us out on our site. There are great conversations going on with both moms and dads and it all boils down to how to work together and how to be better parents."
