Today was the maiden voyage of our new radio show- "The Woodbury Report" with host- Lon Woodbury on K4HD.com, Home of Hollywood LA Internet Talk Radio- and partnered with iHeart Radio. This is a live show, broadcast weekly- every Tuesday at 12:00 noon (PST) with guests who specialize in the issues and struggles of teens, adolescents and young adults- they are informed, interesting, cutting edge, funny and they are always willing to share tips and new information as it becomes available.

Today's guest, Ken Rabow, the "go to guy" for parents with troubled teens and unmotivated young adults, really has a unique way of getting through to these kids with his "out of the box" approach. Starting the show off with a bang- Ken shared "we have always complained about teenagers! Look at the ones out there now- Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus…the role models for kids today has changed drastically. Even where kids hang out has changed. They are in their rooms or the basement with their portals to the outside world- their computers/IPads/Notebooks- and they are not listening to us, what anyone says to them doesn't matter…only what is online at the moment." These Millennial's, those born after 1980, are unique. They are the first generation to grow up with Internet access and change. "Everything changes or disappears in 2-3 years- like where you get your music, the sources for that change all the time. So, to Millennial's- it doesn't matter. Teens think there is no permanence, everything is throw away nowadays. This generation wants perfection- if it's broken, get rid of it. They don't try to fix it. They also feel they have greatness in them, but they end up splitting up what they do, only touching the surface. With the rapidness of the internet and the information coming at them, it is like they are being trained to be ADHD."

"I give them life experiences and they teach me how they perceive the world. I look for a thing in each of my clients- that one thing in them that is special and build on that and help them grow "micro successes". Soon they are looking at the growth and adventure and learning without judging. We really look at what they do great and not focus on their faults. It makes it much more positive.

For parents with a struggling young adult, it can be extremely lonely. When things don't work out- parents don't have support and it is just heartbreaking! They need support. There are three key tips parents can do to motivate their struggling kid-
1. Do one thing you don't have time for- teach by example- just one thing for themselves, to inspire their child.
2. Listen- create good listening situations. The worst time for this? Is at the dinner table. Keep dinner time to family time- a positive thing.
3. Find a mentor for your child- a life mentor.
