In a brief interview with Nancy Masland, an Independent Educational Consultant since 1983, Lon spoke with her about her practice today and her plans for the future. With her practice taking on a new consultant in January 2013, Nancy shared that they will be expanding in the Phoenix area and will be focusing on working with struggling teens and young adults rather than college age students and those attending traditional boarding schools. "It is rampant today, the amount of kids turning to drugs and alcohol, who are anxious and depressed."
Rebecca Redelsheimer, who has been with the firm for five years, is especially helpful in two areas: with technology and the GLBT population. "The suicide rate is especially high in this group of students and we get a lot of calls from schools and families needing help. We are doing pro bono work with interventions and those families needing financial help."
When asked where she sees her firm in five years, Nancy simply put "we will continue our mission in helping students realize their potential." And for Nancy personally, she will continue to mentor new consultants and will continue her work with 'House of Heart for Women', a home for women ages 40-60 with serious mental illnesses and substance abuse in Tucson, AZ.
