Is mindfulness becoming a fad with loose interpretations? Lydia Missal, therapist at Blue Fire Wilderness in south Idaho, joined Lon March 23, 2015 to explore the negatives that might be going along with the popularity of mindfulness practices. One aspect is that meditation has been often talked about in conjunction with mindfulness, but they are two different things. There is some overlap, but mindfulness is part of only some meditation techniques. To oversimplify, mindfulness is learning to pay attention to what is going on both inside and outside yourself. Lydia explains how she is using this as a healing technique for young people in her wilderness program, and why it helps the middle schoolers she works with.
