Nikol Hasler, Project Manager of the Digital Department at KCET
and Author of "Sex: A Book for Teens"
Tuesday, April 8, 2014- 12:00 noon- PST
April 3, 2014
Where do teens get their information about sex? Is it accurate or just information passed around the group? What are the most common questions teens are asking about sex? Even though the subject of sex can be very serious, do teens respond better to information coming in with humor? And how has the internet impacted teens and sexuality?
In her book- Sex: A Book for Teens- Nikol Hasler has been criticized by parents as being too forthcoming and view the book as more of an "instruction manual". Nikol will respond to this accusation and give us her take on her intentions and thought that went into this "hilarious, honest, in-depth book on teen sex". The reality is teens are faced daily with sex- whether to have sex and if so, how to have protected sex. "The information in this book is relatable and gives teen's accurate information."
Nikol Hasler is currently the project manager of the digital department at KCET and the author of Sex: A Book for Teens. Nikol is a single mother of three who moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to produce a comedy pilot based on her video series- "Midwest Teen Sex Show". Growing up in foster care, at 18 Nikol was homeless and pregnant, with mental health issues, drug addictions and eventual incarceration until she began making healthier life choices. Her book was the recipient of the 2011 "Top Ten Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Readers" award.
Lon and Nikol will have a heart to heart on one of teen's most favorite subjects: sex and how most teens are getting their information on this real-life subject. Nikol will share how she herself, got her information about sex- growing up in the foster care system and how now, working with foster youth, she addresses teens about sex, when many of them have come from backgrounds of sexual abuse.
