Vista at Dimple Dell Canyon is pleased to spotlight Dr. Matthew B. Checketts, Ph.D., LCSW who currently functions as the Director of Vista Treatment Centers. Matt has been employed in the Vista system for the past nine and a half years where he has functioned in a variety of capacities. Of particular note is his service as a milieu shift manager, primary therapist, clinical director, and executive director at both residential and transitional locations. Prior to Vista, Matt worked as an English tutor for non-English speaking immigrants, served as a "Big Brother" for the United Way and was employed by the Utah State Legislature as a legislative aid. Dr. Checketts gained clinical social work experience through is work with Murray School District, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, the Utah Department of Workforce Services and Valley Mental Health.
Dr. Checketts completed a duel major in political science from Utah State University and received an area studies certificate in law and society. His graduate education was completed at the University of Utah's College of Social Work where Matt was awarded the degrees of M.S.W. and Ph.D. Matt is experienced in treating a variety of emotional difficulties including personality disorders, anorexia and bulimia, depression, sexual abuse, substance abuse, adoption, family discord, and conduct problems.
Dimple Dell Canyon will benefit greatly from his expertise in these areas as well as through his oversight of our Traumatic Stress Programming. Dr. Checketts dissertation (Female Adolescent Inpatients: An Examination of Coping with Emotional Dysregulation and The Treatment Experiences of Youth with a History of Self-Mutilation) specifically investigates the emotional complexities of female adolescent inpatients.
As we move forward in our effort to help young people we hope to remind our community of peers of our commitment to quality practice through sound and seasoned professionals.
