Uinta Academy
Uinta Academy is a fully licensed Residential Treatment Center that focuses on “intensive clinical therapy, psycho-educational treatment and effective medication management.” They work with girls who are 12 to 18 years old, “successfully treating” issues such as depression, anxiety, adoption issues, peer, child and/or parent conflicts, low self-esteem, manipulation, school failure, attention deficit, physical or sexual abuse, reactive attachment, borderline personality traits, post traumatic stress or intermittent explosive disorder, and substance abuse.
The milieu treatment that is used is the Teaching-Family Model, which “emphasizes building on strengths, social skills development, rational problem solving development, and psycho-educational groups and family meetings.” Each student receives assessment, individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy, and is involved in outdoor recreational activities, instructional classes and equine therapy. Music lessons are also available in piano or acoustic guitar.
The academic program is a fully accredited and is individualized, “challenging and stimulating.” It includes science trips to Yellowstone National Park and other experiential learning activities.
The staff communicates weekly with parents about their daughter’s progress and parents receive a monthly written report on treatment progress. “Parents participate in weekly therapy sessions by speaker phone and are encouraged to visit the Academy for face-to-face family therapy, parenting groups, and individual time with their daughter. An optional service involves an Academy therapist going with the student on a home visit, to help the girl and her family use their newly acquired skills.
Unita staff includes psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed therapists and educational specialists. “These respected and recognized individuals are Ph.D. and Masters level professionals with over 100 years combined experience in serving children and families.”
